Kquery 4.0: Getting Started
Kquery 4 FAQ - Getting started guide
  • Kquery 4 is the latest server browser by K*software. After starting up (and clicking OK through various pre-setup screens), you should be presented with the main interface.

  • In an effort to keep things simple, most complex operations can be found by right-clicking on areas of the program.
For now, lets start by creating a new tab where we can browse our servers.

Setting up a Server List / Tab

  • Right click on the tab area and select 'Add a new server list tab'

  • Type in a name for the list.

Tip: Use short descriptive names, such as 'game2xs UK' or 'CounterStrike'

  • Pressing OK / enter will create a new tab for us

Tip: You can switch between tabs by clicking on them

  • Click on the new tab we created to switch to it

    Finding Servers

  • The main toolbar houses the 'Get Servers' menu, which lists all currently available games.

Not only does it lists games by their names, but it also supports searching for LAN servers, ISP based lists and so on.
We're going to get a list of all Game2XS servers in the following screenshot :

  • The sever display should start filling up with servers like the following screenshot shows.

Tip: If all your servers stay in the 'not queried' section, please check your network settings and restart Kquery.
By default, all servers go to the 'filtered' category becuase we haven't setup any active filters yet (but more about that later).
Click on the [+] next to the 'filtered' category.

Shown are the current servers kquery knows about, along with their status.
Notice how empty servers are 'greyed' out and occupied servers aren't. This is to aid readability.
Here are some more example outputs :

  • The 'not queried' folder :

Shown here are server addresses kquery knows, but has not been able to retrieve more information about.
This could be to many factors, such as internet traffic, server crashes, version mismatches and so on.

  • Clicking on a server in the list brings up more information about that server on the left hand panel :

Tip: Double clicking a server in the list will force a refresh of that server's details.

One thing to make things slightly easier are the colour coded player slot status indicators :

= occupied = available = reserved for admins.
This helps you to see with a quick glance whether a server is busy or not.

  • Further features :

    • To refresh your serverlist, click the refresh list button.
    • To refresh just the selected server, click the refresh button on the server toolbar
    • To join the server, click the join button on the server toolbar or right click on a server from the list and select join from the menu

    • To prevent changes to your list, you can 'lock' it by selecting lock lists from the list/filter menu.

The padlock symbol appears to indicate that all the lists are locked.
